FreeBSD 8
Its always nice to see a new version of FreeBSD. The latest version introduces a lot of new features and improvements that system administrators would love.
Personally I enjoy the stability of ZFS since early development releases of FreeBSD 8. Now ZFS is no longer experimental and can be used in production environments.
The other interesting new feature is “vimage” or Network Virtualization that addresses one of the major shortcomings of FreeBSD jails. Thanks to this new feature, the kernel can maintain multiple instances of networking subsystems, which means network independence for Jails.
The new TTY is more SMP friendly and works much snappier.
A complete list of new features can be found in the release notes. You may also download the ISO images from FTP or Bittorrent.
